Drum Theatre. One Stage. 20 Years.
The Drum turns 20. Join us for a special celebration of the artists, stories and memories that have shaped this much-loved place.
The evening begins with a one-off, immersive theatre experience commissioned by Council and led by local dramaturg Oz Malik. Unfolding throughout the building, from the Green Room to the Orchestra Pit, the experience features an eclectic mix of community and professional performers, including Victorian State Ballet, Djarlo Dance Group and Harsiddhi Mody, alongside local choir and performing
ensembles.
The experience brings the Drum’s stories to life through performance, movement and sound, featuring two distinct sound elements: a commissioned soundscape by First Nations artist Leon Rodgers, reflecting the atmosphere, character and sense of place of the Drum; and a series of oral history and sound vignettes, woven into the live performances to bring memories and stories from the Drum’s past into the present.
The evening also includes a Welcome to Country, local luminaries, anniversary cake, live music, and a RIDDIM-curated foyer party featuring local DJs and Our Beat alumni. As the sun sets, step outside for the spectacular Drum lighting reveal.
