Two women in colourful, traditional dress, striking elegant poses

Sammilana is presented by Natyanjali Bengaluru, supported by Melbourne Kannada Sangha, and brought to life by the well-known dance duo The Ashok Sisters (Adithi and Spurthi Ashok). This production combines the grace and depth of Bharatanatyam from the South, with the fluidity and vibrancy of Kathak from the North of Ganga, an evocative dance inspired by the Namami Gange project.

The piece tells the story of Ganga, who, disheartened by humanity’s neglect, longs to return to the heavens. As humans cleanse her waters and restore her sanctity, she chooses to stay, blessing humanity with her eternal grace. It has received widespread acclaim for performances all over India.

The Ashok Sisters, born into a family of art patrons, naturally embraced traditional arts. Daughters of renowned Bharatanatyam exponent Guru Sri Ashok Kumar, they learnt Kathak from Gurus Smt. Nirupama Rajendra and Sri T. D.Rajendra. Their passion has taken them all over the world, where they have given captivating performances to esteemed audiences, including the Ambanis, They aspire to elevate these art forms, dedicating their lives to dance and its rich traditions.
